Good oral health practices should begin in infancy and continue throughout the adult life. Attitudes and habits established at an early age are critical in maintaining good oral health throuaghout your child’s life. With your help and regular professional care, your child can grow up cavity free and keep their teeth all their lives.
At Dr. Mou’s office, we believe in this early childhood dental care and strive to provide positive dental experience to your children. We can see your child as early as one year age. Dr. Mou use the tell-see-do approach and positive reinforcement (see below for explaination) that has been proven effective in pediatric dentistry. Our practice can provide a wide range of dental services for your children, including sealant, baby teeth filling and baby teeth root canal treatment. To ensure proper adult teeth eruption and clear tooth infection, sometimes baby teeth extraction will be done, following by a space maintainer to keep the space open for the coming adult tooth. Our flexibility in our services saves you time and keeps your total dental care within one practice. Our emphasis is on total preventive care for our patients. Total care begins with regular hygiene visits, regular check-ups and continued home oral health routines.
We provide many preventative measures to keep your child’s teeth clean and healthy, including sealants and fluoride treatments. We also educate the parents in early detection of some common problems children may face, including thumb sucking, bruxism and baby bottle tooth decay.
Our primary goal for your children’s dental development is to achieve and maintain optimum oral health through advances in techniques, technologies and by maintaining their scheduled dental exams.
Tell-Show-Do Approach: Dr. Fan Mou will explains to your child what is to be done using simple terminology and repetition and then shows your child what is to be done by demonstrating with instruments on a model or the child’s or dentist’s finger. Then the procedure is performed in the child’s mouth as described. Praise is used to reinforce cooperative behavior.
Positive Reinforcement: This technique rewards the child who displays any behavior which is desirable. Rewards include compliments, praise, and a pat on the back, a hug or a prize. At the time of leaving our offices the kids will be awarded with toys, balloons, electric toothbrush, toothpaste, stickers and coloring books with dental education contents.
